A Dental Bridge is a fixed, non-removable, dental appliance. It is a replacement tooth or teeth used to fill the space of missing teeth.
When you have a missing tooth, the nearby teeth may move in to fill the empty space. The teeth opposite the missing tooth may also move up or down toward the empty space. This shifting of teeth may cause issues with eating. It may also cause mouth or joint discomfort and pain.
There are several types of dental bridges. The “traditional bridge” is the most popular type and is usually made of porcelain fused to metal. A porcelain fixed bridge is the most popular because it resembles your natural teeth. This type of bridge consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth called abutment teeth. The crowns are attached to artificial teeth, called pontics. The artificial teeth fill the gap created by one or more missing teeth.
